I’M AMAZED AT THE AFTERMATH THE GOLDEN AGE OF BODYBUILDING HAD ON MY SPORT. IF ANYONE WOULD HAVE TOLD ME BACK THEN, BODYBUILDING WOULD END UP WITH PEOPLE CALLING US DRUGGIES AND WOULD NOT BE ON THE GRAND STAGE AT THE OLYMPICS, I WOULD HAVE SAID, THAT’S NOT POSSIBLE.
TO NOT BE IN THAT ARENA BATTLING IT OUT LIKE THE GLADIATORS OF OLD FOR THE GOLD IS DENYING BODYBUILDERS / BODYBUILDING THEIR RIGHTFUL PLACE.
TO STAND ON THE OLYMPIC STAGE REPRESENTING THE ULTIMATE IN MUSCULAR DEVELOPMENT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN HONOR AND INSPIRATION FOR ALL.
THAT WAS MY DREAM AND THE DREAMS OF OTHERS. WAS I JUST LIVING IN A FANTASY WORLD CREATED BY THE GOVERNING VOICES OF OUR LEADERS?
WHAT I CAN’T SHAKE IS SEEING SO MANY DREAMERS LIKE MYSELF BELIEVING IN THE GROWN-UPS WE PAID $200.00, IN MY DAY, AND $300.00, TODAY TO BE MEMBERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION. WE WERE FAILED BY THE GOVERNING BODYBUILDING SYSTEM WE PAID TO PROTECT AND GUIDE US.
I’M NOT ONLY EMBARRASSED FOR THEM, BUT HONESTLY FOR MYSELF AS WELL. THEY DID A BAD JOB LIKE MICHAEL BROWN OF FEMA:

IF OTHERS WANT TO PRAISE THEM, THEY ARE LYING TO THEMSELVES.
NOTHING HAS CHANGED - IT’S 2010.
ONE MUSCLE MAG WRITER SAID TO ME, BODYBUILDING IS A BUSINESS.
I ASKED, FOR WHOM?
DEFINITELY NOT THE COMPETITORS.
MY INGRAINED VISION OF WHAT I AND OTHERS WISHED TO ACCOMPLISH WAS THROWN UNDER THE GRINDING STONE AND BLOWN INTO THE WINDS OF TIME. WHEN YOU FAIL, YOU GET A LUMP IN YOUR THROAT WHICH IS HARD TO SWALLOW.
THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SEE YOUR DREAMS DERAILED BY OTHERS’ GREED. IT LEAVES YOU WITH A CHILLING EFFECT - MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY. ESPECIALLY IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE POWER TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE SITUATION.
BUT, I REALIZE AS I HAVE GROWN YOUNGER, OLDER, IT'S ABOUT GROWING STRONGER WITH ADVERSITY.

Robby,
Being on the America Committe of the AAU, I felt that we would see Bodybuilding in the Olympics, even as an exhibition event. However, the Weiders were viewed very negatively by the USOC, and the IOC. Another factor was the loss of Bob Hoffman who championed Olympic lifting and was viewed well by the Olympic Committees. Ultimately, greed won out, and the athletes lost. I remember my friends Carlos Rodriguez, and Pete Miller who put ourselves on the line. My dream was to see us in the Olympics.

Just wow...I'm speechless about that pic..
Something that I recalled seeing this picture of Robby's back is that when I went to Santa Monica/ Venice this summer with my family to take his Master Class, I gave him a hug in the airport as we were headed back home. Robby's spinal erector muscles felt like steel cables.
